Diet affects health and wellness

There is no doubt that the food that we eat affects our overall health and wellness. Recent studies and researchs have revealed that almost thirty percent of deaths due to cancer is caused by smoking and more than fifty percent of cancers and cancer related deaths can be controlled and overcome by making changes in our lifestyle and diet. Different kind of cancers like gastric, colorectal, breast, prostate, and lung cancers have responded positively to proper diets. Shocking studies have revealed that vegetarians have shown low or nil chances of developing cancer especially in women than non-vegetarians. Certain foods like dairy products, processed meats, saturated fats and alcohol have shown increased chances of developing cancer.

In case you are planning to start your cancer prevention diet, the way to start is to include maximum serving of fruits and vegetables in your diet. Some foods like beans and legumes, are called as cancer prevention foods because of their high fiber content and phytochemicals that are instrumental in protecting the body from cancer. Soy is another food that belongs to the legume family and have proved its credentials against prostate cancer. However, in case of fiber, fiber directly does not aid in the prevention of cancer directly, but it helps in the lowering of cholesterol and reduces risk of coronary diseases leading to cancer.

Cut down intake of meat

Cut down on the intake of meat, at least one third of your present consumption and opt for lean meats and poultry than red meat. Cook your meat by broiling, roasting, baking or grilling rather than oiling it by frying or greasing them to reduce consumption of unhealthy fats. Opting for fish and chicken over red meats are healthy and can be prepared in a variety of ways to satisfy our tastes.

Dieticians and medical practitioners strongly recommends the adoption of dietary patterns that combines regular physical activities along with a diet which is rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes, seeds, nuts and low-fat dairy products to all who are at risk of cancer and cardio vascular diseases. These recommendations can be put into local tastes and habits to enjoy the most.

Type of cancers and their causes depends on a lot of factors? Weakness in a certain part of the body, may be due to some accident or genetic problems to drug abuse and exposure to harmful pollution or also because of unhealthy living. Yes the damages cannot be reversed, but further harm and prevention can be done through nutrition by healthy eating and diet plans.

Noted below are some dietary and lifestyle tips in the prevention of cancer:

  • Try to stay as lean as possible by maintaining a normal range of body weight and educate children from childhood of the same.
  • Be physically active always by adopting to some sort of physical indulgences like jogging, walking and swimming and absolutely avoid a sedentary lifestyle.
  • Avoid consumption of sugary drinks, fatty foods, processed foods and energy dense foods.
  • Consume maximum foods of plant origin like fruits and vegetables and at least four to five times a day.
  • Run away from red meats and processed meats.
  • Limit consumption of alcohol.
  • Limit salt intake, molded pulses and grains or cereals.
  • Control dietary supplements.
