Stay hydrated in summers for a healthy body

Staying hydrated is important in summers because it helps to maintain the body’s water balance. It also helps to keep the body cool by preventing heat stroke and dehydration. The human body is made up of 60% water. Body needs water to function properly, and it needs more during summer because of high temperatures.

Water is necessary for the body to function properly and it is also crucial for maintaining a healthy weight. It helps in digestion, absorption of nutrients, regulation of body temperature, and more.

A person needs to drink at least 2 litres of water a day. But it’s even more important during summers when the temperature is high and the humidity is very low.

Here are steps that you can take to stay hydrated this summer:

  • Drink more water during the day.
  • Drink a glass of water before going out in the sun, or before exercising.
  • Keep a bottle of water with you at all times and drink it when you feel thirsty.
  • Drink more fluids when it’s hot outside.
  • Add lemon or lime juice to your water for extra flavour.
  • Stay away from caffeinated drinks like coffee and tea, as they make you dehydrated.
  • Limit alcohol consumption.

How to Stay Hydrated in Summer Without Drinking Water?

There are many ways to stay hydrated in the summer without drinking water.

  • Drink juice or other beverages that contain a lot of water.
  • Drink iced tea, which is made by adding lots of ice and tea leaves to boiling water. The result is a cold beverage that contains a lot of water.
  • Eat fruits and vegetables that contain lots of water such as cucumbers, celery, oranges, grapefruits, tomatoes and lettuce.
  • Eat water-filled foods such as dried fruits, cooked fruit, and cooked vegetables.
  • Drink coconut water which is full of electrolytes.
  • Drink a sports drink which contains lots of electrolytes.
  • Sip on some wine or iced tea with a lemon slice to help wash down the saltiness of your food and drink.
