In an exciting development for fashion enthusiasts across Australia and New Zealand, THE ICONIC, in collaboration with First Nations Fashion + Design (FNFD), has recently launched a captivating new collection. The collection, comprised of designs from three First Nations brands, was born out of THE ICONIC x FNFD Incubator Program—an initiative that has fostered innovation and opportunity for talented Indigenous designers.
The designers at the forefront of this exciting partnership are Elverina Johnson of Gungganji and her label Pink Fish, Glenda McCulloch, Jaunita Doyle, Dale Bruce, and Cheryl Perez of Mt. Isa-based label Myrrdah, and Briana Enoch of Kuranda-based label Jarawee.
Since April 2023, these designers have actively engaged with a series of workshops, tours, and experiences—structured across four chapters—guided by both cultural peers and industry experts. The immersive program has provided these creatives with invaluable insights into brand development, merchandising, marketing, and other essential aspects of the industry. Now, their designs are available to be appreciated and enjoyed by customers across the region.
Gayle Burchell, Chief Commercial and Sustainability Officer at THE ICONIC, expressed her pride in bringing these designs to the platform, emphasising the immense talent, drive, and dedication witnessed throughout the program. She also emphasised the importance of sharing business expertise with growing businesses while learning from the unique perspectives and experiences of First Nations designers.
Grace Lillian Lee, FNFD’s Founder and Chair, underscored the significance of such partnerships in supporting self-determination within the industry and facilitating the growth of these businesses.
Each designer has brought a distinct creative vision to their designs. Briana Enoch’s Jarawee label is a showcase of bold prints and vibrant colors that ignite the imagination, while Elverina Johnson of Pink Fish draws inspiration from the vibrant landscapes of Far North Queensland. Myrrdah, a collaborative effort from four sisters, is a reflection of the stunning landscapes and nature that surrounds their home in Northwest Queensland.
These unique designs have been transformed into wearable pieces, thanks to Epson Australia’s digital printing solutions. As part of Epson’s landmark technology and sustainability agreement to support FNFD as a print and projection partner, these designs have been expertly digitised and printed, ready to be showcased on THE ICONIC’s platform.
This exclusive collection of designs from Myrrdah, Pink Fish, and Jarawee is now available for purchase on THE ICONIC, offering a fusion of Indigenous creativity, cultural heritage, and contemporary fashion to customers across Australia and New Zealand.
