How can you choose the right kind of polish for your nails? You may appear to be spoilt for choice with some companies boasting of about 100 shades. But then a nail polish that enhances the beauty of one woman’s nails may make another’s nails look like claws of a monster. Picking the right nail polish depends on the shape of your nails and the colour of your skin. Here is a guide to help you get the combo right.
Short Nail Beds
Wear light to medium colours – stay away from dark hues since they make tiny tips look even shorter. Fake length with light and shimmery tints.
Long Nail Beds
For long nail beds, file straight across nails and round off edges slightly to prevent snags or scratches. Almost any colour will suit you but stay away from very bright and metallic colours that might make your nails look like claws.
Wide Nail Beds
Trim nail bases to give them an oval shape. Leave a narrow strip on each side of the nail unpainted. Steer clear of intense colours plums, deep reds and browns that emphasize width. Pinks and sheers camouflage your nail size better.
Fair Skin
Do not wear very light or yellow tones or dull colours they can make your skin look pale. Choose bright colours to liven up your skin tone.
Medium to Wheatish Skin
Most colours look great on this skin colour especially colours in lilac and rust. Yellow and orange based reds are great for wheatish skin.
Dusky Skin
Can wear almost all colours except bright pinks or oranges or dull browns. Yellow and gold tones will look great on you.
